Cyber-utopianism: the role of the internet in social and political revolution
About this video
Has the internet helped to spread democracy, or has it brought government’s new ways to monitor and control their citizens?
Author of 'The Net Delusion: The Dark Side of Internet Freedom', Evgeny Morozov provides an analysis of the internet’s role in shaping social and political developments throughout the world.
Morozov deconstructs a number of myths to suggest that the internet may not always be the revolutionary device that it's often hailed to be. As well as providing freedom of expression, he argues that the web can also provide authoritarian governments with additional means to clamp down on and monitor their citizens.
