What keeps a satellite in orbit?

Whether it is accessing GPS data or global communications, satellites play an integral role in the servicing of the modern world. This animated film, voiced by Johnny Ball, looks at how we’re able to take advantage of the Earth’s gravity to position Satellites in orbit.

Over the last 50 years we have made use of this knowledge to populate the space above Earth. With everything from communication satellites to manned spacecraft such as the International Space Station, there are now an estimated 2465 artificial satellites orbiting the Earth.

The film forms part of an educational series published by Satellite service provider, Astra.
