The nature of things
About this video
Near to a miracle
In 1962 Sir William Lawrence Bragg returned for a second series of ‘The Nature of Things’, broadcast by the BBC. Bragg takes his lead from Michael Faraday’s work on electromagnetic induction to explore the basic principles of electricity. Sticking to his mantra of ‘showing’ rather than ‘telling’, and the tradition of the Ri, the broadcasts are anchored around an eclectic series of electric demonstrations.
‘The Messengers’ is the final episode of the second series broadcast in the early 1960s. Once again using a series of practical demonstrations, Lawrence Bragg explores the ‘miracle’ of radio and television transmission.
The second series of “The Nature of Things” was filmed from October 1962 onwards.
