Nobody knows how music began, but we've been making it since prehistory and it's one of the creative enterprises that marks out humans from the animal kingdom. 

Accompanied by Pythagoras, Beethoven, Thomas Edison and other star turns, Science Club leads us on an animated musical trip down the ages.

The film was featured in Dara O Briain's Science Club, a six-part series on BBC Two examining the world and how it works from lots of different and unexpected angles.
