About this video
Going viral...
Try and keep up with Take Part’s rapid fire animation presenting their version of how a simple virus could change the world.
Spreading from an initial ‘Index patient’ a viral outbreak could, theoretically, infect thousands of individuals and quickly rise to pandemic proportions (‘like Bieber fever’). This animation explores a ‘worst case’ scenario, in which a global pandemic threatens society as we know it, from stock market crash to a reliance on ‘sporks’.
It’s not all doom and gloom however. If we’re fast and operate efficient quarantine procedures we can hope to halt the spread of infection. The 2003 outbreak of SARS for example proves that we’re capable of containing a virus.
The digital media organisation Take Part have produced an online media resource to accompany the film, including some great info-graphics and a live global ‘health map’ which tracks disease outbreaks across the world: http://www.takepart.com/contagion
